We're raising funds for Polar Bears International this Polar Bear Week!

This year, Yorkshire Wildlife Park and the WildLife Foundation are working together to raise funds for Polar Bears International, an organisation focused on protecting polar bears and their Arctic habitat.

Every autumn, polar bears gather along the shores of Hudson Bay near Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. They patiently wait for the sea ice to form so they can hunt for seals, their main food source.

However, climate change has extended the ice-free summer by three to four weeks compared to the 1980s. This change puts a heavy strain on polar bears’ fat reserves and threatens their survival.

To raise awareness and celebrate these magnificent animals, Polar Bears International created Polar Bear Week. This event coincides with the time when polar bears gather near Churchill. Each year, it highlights the challenges polar bears face and promotes coexistence between humans and wildlife.

As the Arctic warms, conflicts between humans and polar bears are increasing. With sea ice melting earlier and forming later, polar bears spend more time on land, leading to more encounters with people.

Polar Bears International aims to ensure safety for both polar bears and humans, fostering understanding and encouraging conservation efforts.

By supporting this campaign, you help protect polar bears, their habitat, and the fragile balance between humans and wildlife in a rapidly changing Arctic.
