Yorkshire Wildlife Park has just received another prestigious honour by being awarded a VisitEngland Gold Accolade. The award, which places YWP among the elite of English tourist attractions, was confirmed after a detailed assessment of the innovative park.
Inspectors said the Gold Accolade was a ‘testament to the high standards achieved’ at the fast-growing walk through wildlife park near Doncaster. YWP , which has won a string of awards, was founded seven years ago and has gone from strength to strength as a visitor attraction and important centre for animal conservation. Visitors encounter endangered and beautiful animals from all over the world including Amur Tigers and Amur Leopards, giraffes, anteaters and many more animals including the only four polar bears in the country at Project Polar.
The VisitEngland Gold Awards are given out after all the attractions in the Visitor Attraction Quality Assured Scheme have been visited by inspectors and assessed. Attractions need to score highly in all aspects across visitor experience, facilities, service and staff to achieve the ultimate Gold Accolade which is given to the top 10% of attractions.
Sally Balcombe Chief Executive of VisitEngland commented: “These attractions have received an accolade either for their warm welcome, unique storytelling or high-quality food and drink; ensuring an all-round quality experience for visitors. The accolades reflect the wide variety of world-class attractions on offer in England and provide the perfect reason to book a visit.”
YWP, which puts conservation and animal welfare at the heart of all it does , has just announced a £3.6m expansion and improvement plan for 2016 involving bringing endangered black rhinos to the park.
The current African Plains will be completely redeveloped in a £1.6m project to create a new walk through Safari experience. The Park aims to give visitors a great day out and last year introduced several exciting new events including Safari Nights and a successful Christmas Fair in addition to developing the core wildlife park offer.
The unique YWP experience has been supported by developing branded customer service training and quality standards so that staff can deliver the best experience for guests.
The innovative park only opened in April 2009 and attracted 66,000 visitors in the first year and last year welcomed an amazing 678,000 guests. YWP has delivered a significant boost to tourism for Yorkshire since opening, generating over £5m to the region.
