Whether you are just visiting YWP for a school visit or adding an education session on to your day, your students are guaranteed to have an amazing educational trip at YWP.


Secondary school visits

School visits at YWP are self guided (under 16’s must be supervised at all times), although education sessions can be booked to enhance your visit (see below). During your day, attend scheduled ranger talks and animal feeding times. Chat to our friendly rangers to learn more about our wildlife. Enjoy our peaceful woodland surroundings and picnic at any of our lovely picnic areas. With so much to do, you are sure to enjoy your day!

Pricing & Booking

The prices for school visits without education sessions can be seen in the table below, you must have 10 or more children in your group to qualify for these prices. You gain 1 free adult admission for every 10 paying children, you are more than welcome to use annual passes to enter for free however education session prices still apply and this may affect the allocation of free adults.

You must pre-book to receive discounted education rates. Why not incorporate an education session into your visit for just £1.50 extra per child, these hand-on interactive sessions are sure to enhance your students’ knowledge and appreciation of wildlife. See below for more information.


Secondary school education sessions

Aren’t animals amazing

During this general fun, hands on education session students will gain a greater appreciation and understanding of animals. They will observe and touch a range of animal artefacts such as skulls, claws, feathers and at least one live animal. If you would prefer, this session could be tailored to be just hands on with more of our animals which includes a variety of invertebrates.

Animal adaptations

This session involves a hands on group activity and chance for the students to examine a range of animal bio-facts and live animals.

Zoo Careers – Job roles and responsibilities

Find out about the different roles and responsibilities at YWP, with a special focus on what it takes to be an animal ranger. The session includes a presentation, YWP animal ranger video and group activities based around the different roles at the park.

Applied science

This session involves a presentation which covers all aspects of the park, really popular session which includes careers, health and safety, conservation and sustainability.

Conservation and endangered animals

Sessions start with a thought provoking group activity centered around endangered animals, the session also includes getting hands on with a range of animal bio-facts and items seized by HMRC (such as furs and skins).

Customer Services

An in depth look at importance of customer service and how it is implemented at the park: a presentation and a customer needs activity.

Brand new extended sessions available for this Autumn/Winter. A great way to link STEM subjects to a visit to YWP!

Animal Enrichment

This session looks at the importance of environmental enrichment and how it is used with a range of species at YWP. Students will also have the opportunity to make their own animal enrichment items and watch how the animals interact with them later in the day.

Scientific Research

This session looks at the importance of carrying out research within animal collections. The students will look at some examples of the research carried out at YWP and will then carry out their own mini research project to collect some animal behaviour data of their own!
